Born in Holguín, Cuba, 1991. Currently living and working in La Habana. Graduated from painting and drawing from the Academy of Arts El Alba, Holguín (2006-2010). His work has been exhibited in several countries, including the US, Canada, Spain, and Germany.
In his latest body of work, the artist delves into the realm of historical portraiture, reimagining and transforming it through the deliberate deformation of facial features. His primary pictorial objective is to distort forms, creating alternative variants of traditional portraits while maintaining elements that render the subject recognizable. This approach not only challenges the conventional aesthetics of portraiture but also invites viewers to engage with the familiar in a profoundly unfamiliar way.
The evolution of his pictorial style is intrinsically linked to his personal journey and artistic practice. Growing up surrounded by medical books, particularly those focused on anatomy, played a pivotal role in shaping his artistic vision. This early exposure to the intricacies of the human form has informed his unique approach to portraiture, characterized by recognizable features and distinct patterns of distortion. His work reflects a deep-seated fascination with the human body and its potential for transformation.
By conceiving monstrous portraits, the artist intervenes in the natural order, altering established forms and challenging the symmetry of life. His creations evoke a sense of enthusiasm and curiosity, prompting viewers to question the boundaries of the sublime and the irrational. Through distortion, he generates an inexhaustible aesthetic universe, where the familiar is continuously redefined and the possibilities for artistic exploration are limitless.
