A Labyrinth in the Stomach of a Crocodile proposes a journey into the entrails, a groping path through the intestinal matter of the wild reptile, an exercise in returning to the artist's unconscious, to the rural stories of childhood, to experiences of loss and rupture.

The labyrinthine journey places us before a difficulty, a mathematical problem, an anti-architectural space, built from obstacles and uncertainty. It is another test the artist must undergo to find himself in a damp, shadowy landscape, full of mirages.

Each canvas or drawing by Orlando Almanza constitutes another threshold in the convoluted route of the labyrinth. The images emerge as clues, evidence, pieces of a puzzle that tells a fragmentary story, a collective story, whether it be family memory or even that of an imagined country.

We walk blindly through the stomach of the crocodile. The darkness does not allow us to ascertain how much or how many the reptile has swallowed. We are guided by the prayers and orations of the deceased, a voice like that of a loved one, which Orlando turns into a thread, to guide us back again.
